We had a situation today where partner A melded and part of their meld was a dirty book of three jacks AND a wild card. It was time for Partner B to play and Partner B was holding a whole clean book of jacks in their hand. They handed the complete book of jacks to partner A and said, here is a clean book and Partner A placed the book in the designed area for books. I said, no, you cannot bypass a book that has already been started without completing the initial book first. When learning to play the game, I was told you had to complete a book that was melded before starting a new book even if you had a complete clean book in your hand. This is why we hope our partner melds a clean book instead of a dirty book, especially if we are holding and waiting to meld with five of the same cards. Otherwise, you could hold those 5 and hope to draw 2 more and just hand them a clean book while there's an incomplete dirty book that has been played in the meld.
Bypassing an incomplete dirty book and saving up enough cards in your hand to create a clean book and playing the clean before the dirty book is fulfilled just doesn't seem right. Can you point to some rules that clarify? Cards that have been melded need to be completed before starting a "new" book even if the "new" book is a complete book.
Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05327640393433927400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1705685542908445266.post-36296647895843637942021-02-08T16:03:21.676-06:002021-02-08T16:03:21.676-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05327640393433927400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1705685542908445266.post-21231177912859062022020-07-03T14:59:31.221-05:002020-07-03T14:59:31.221-05:00I'm not the OP, but when we play Hand and Foot...I'm not the OP, but when we play Hand and Foot, yes. You first count the book value, then put all the books together and tally up the value of each individual card.
